With the help of different media (texts, audios, video-clips) we will be looking at a great range of current topics and plunge into a lively discussion. As we go along, we will also look at vocabulary related to the topics. This will give you a chance to build up your vocabulary and gain more confidence in speaking English. Come and join us!
If you want to speak English well, it’s not enough to know the meaning of words but also how words are used and work together with other words. We will look at some natural word combinations, for instance, correct heavy rain not strong rain, a tall man/woman but a correct high mountain not tall mountain, a slight/slim chance meaning a small chance as well as fixed expressions and phrasal verbs. The aim of this course is to become aware of special word combinations and learn how to use them effectively.
The focus of this course, designed for intermediate learners, is on communication rather than grammar perfection—mistakes are welcome as part of the learning process.
